A Bunsky Recap of E3

Wow. Just wow. E3 was amazing. After 2 years of trying to find itself, I think it’s finally returning to its former glory. I honestly wasn’t prepared for the amount of news and new releases that came out of this show, but I’m glad for every delicious piece of information that emerged. So what were The Bunskies favorite things from E3? Since there was so much stuff (and crap) that was discussed this week, Kage and I, Larry, will only list 3 of our favorites. Yes, I said 3 Kage. Don’t argue with me; just pick something.

Larry

  1. Metorid: Other M – Oh my god… Where the Samus did this come from? The Prime triology was amazing, and the re-releases of that trilogy for the Wii is great. That’s all I expected Nintendo to talk about this year. Behold, a new trailer and partnership with Team Ninja (Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden fame) showed off a brand-new, action-packed Samus. Sadly, it was just a trailer, so we’ll have to wait for sometime before people can get their hands on it. It might also anger some Metroid fans, since it seems to be a different style from the past. For me, as long as the game is good, and give me another chance to play as Samus, I’m happy.
  2. Project Natal -  Microsoft didn’t really need to do anything special for this year’s E3. They were already making it clear that they were going to have a great lineup of games. Nabbing a Metal Gear Solid trailer,  getting a demo of Final Fantasy XIII, showing off for the first time The Beatles: Rock Band (along with Ringo and Paul), and… well they did a lot. They really didn’t need to do much more to appease everyone. Boy, were we in for a surprise. At the end of their show, they finally unveiled the motion sensing camera project they have been working on. Although, it’s more that that. It’s also facial recognition, voice recognition, and other amazing stuff. Sure the whole PR trailer was one big cheese-fest  and the jab at the Wii was totally uncalled for, but what they were showing off was truly amazing. The Peter Molyneux demo with Milo is something that will go down in E3 history. Let’s hope Microsoft and it’s 3rd-party publishers really push this thing to the max.
  3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – Behold, the power of the PlayStation 3. Seeing this demo unfold brought a tear to my eye. OK, not really, but it is truly a gorgeous and cinematic game. Nathan Drake is back and better than ever, and has more moves, and witty remarks, than ever before. The scale of the game, the animation, the gameplay, and a host of other things have been improved. Naughty Dog (Jack and Daxter fame) have shown once again that they are a force to be reckoned with by creating software that clearly shows they can make games unlike any other. There’s also a screaming crowd that agrees with me on this. This is yet another reason for me to buy a PS3… or wait for Kage to buy his and just play with that.

Kage

  1. Modern Warfare 2: Beautiful. This game is going to rock, hands down. The story seems like it will be more intense with tons of action. I can’t wait till 11/10/09!
  2. Heavy Rain: Beautiful as well. I’m usually not into this type of a game, but I have a strong feeling this game is going to be superb. Huge script, and I can’t wait to play it more than once.
  3. Final Fantasy XIII: I am a big fan of FF7 and FF10, and this game seems to take the best from those two games and combine them to make one awesome Final Fantasy. I think the gameplay style will be promising. I like the overall feel of this game, and will be embracing my RPG love next year!

Preparation E3

Alright, E3 starts on Monday. Here’s what you should be doing to get ready for it.

  1. Be prepared to sit in front of a computer screen for at least 2-3 hours a day. That’s how much news, videos, and images will be releases. You’ll need to keep up with all of it.
  2. Tell any significant others to leave you alone while a demo is being shown. Your attention needs to be on the demo, not their needs.
  3. Get food that is really easy to make. Something with easy in the name. Like Easy Mac. If you can try to eat healthy, do it. Most likely, however, you’ll be stuck eating junk. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It is E3.
  4. Your schedule next week must be thought our differently. Everything has to be planned around E3, most importantly, the big 3 press conferences: Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. This is where most of the news comes from, and it’s also a good place for fanboys to start their whining or celebrations. Mostly whining.
  5. Bookmark all of the different sites that will be updating like crazy next week. We’re so nice that we giving you a few right now. Of course there are many more, but these are the ones we go to the most.
  6. Stock up on air fresheners. You’ll find out that you won’t have time for showers. It’s fine; they aren’t that important to begin with. For this week that is.

Well, that’s about everything you need to know to prepare for E3. Believe us, it’s going to rock. Or it will be better than last year’s bomb at least.

The Bunskies are out!!
